Matthew 27
Matthew 27:50
Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
There’s a lot going on in this chapter. Jesus is bound, led away, accused by the priests, condemned by the mob, abandoned by the governor, mocked by men, forsaken by God, and swallowed by death. What a colossal chapter this is. And he submitted to it all. But it’s, perhaps, this last step that I find most remarkable – he yielded up his spirit and entered the realm of the dead. What was it like for the author of life to personally taste of death? And into the tomb his body went. No happy story to tell from chapter 27, only wonder that Jesus’ submission should be so thorough and complete. Oh, lamb of God, sweet and holy lamb of God.
