Acts 10

Acts 10:33
We are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.

Now that’s music to a preacher’s ears.

It’s natural to expect the preacher to prepare a message, but the real magic occurs when a congregation prepares to receive it.

Do you know that a congregation brings just as much to the sermon as the preacher does? Therefore, we should never leave the preacher to do all the heavy lifting. But what exactly does the listener bring? Well, you can see that Cornelius brought a ready mind and a hungry heart. He didn’t just sit back, but leaned in and led the way. And do you know it was one of the most "anointed" sermons found in the New Testament? (See what happens in verse 44.) But that was not all Peter. It was what the congregation brought to the event as well.

We believe that when the Scriptures are opened God’s voice is heard. And if that is the case, then there should be nothing casual about our listening.
