Acts 14

Acts 14:11
And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!”

People are wired for worship. But, beware: when it goes horizontal, it can easily backfire. People can praise you today and throw rocks at you tomorrow. And, in fact, it doesn’t even take that long for this to happen to Paul. (See verse 19.)

Be wary of the praise of man. Appreciation is nice. Congratulations are fitting. But, hopefully, you know the difference between admiration and adulation. Don’t let people go there. Nobody wins when people are praised. Especially the one being praised. If you are standing in the way of the sun, get out of the way before you start casting shadows.
