1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
The great escapist, Harry Houdini, once said, “No prison can hold me; no hand or leg irons or steel locks can shackle me. No ropes or chains can keep me from my freedom.” I think we need to have a similar confidence when it comes to our freedom in Christ.
Some people think—the devil made me do it. Well, according to verse 13, that’s not true. He can tempt you, but he cannot overtake you. And every temptation you will ever face comes furnished with a hatch door. There’s always a way of escape. And while it doesn’t require Houdini’s trickery, it does require his confidence.
