Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
Before meeting Christ, Paul had what you would call resume righteousness. His accomplishments were impressive. And maybe yours are as well. Sometimes church is your resume. Sometimes your children are your resume. Sometimes how well you keep your house is your resume. This is resume righteousness. It’s the thought that my resume makes me right.
In our culture, you’re disqualified when you fail. But with Jesus, you’re actually disqualified when you succeed. There’s a big difference between confidence in self and confidence in Christ! And the good news about today’s reading is that your relationship with Christ does not depend on how well you perform. Jesus has already finished the work. Therefore, put your trust in Him.
