Genesis 28-30

Daily Devotional from Genesis 28--

Verses 16 & 18
“When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it….” Early in the morning Jacob took the stone that was near his head and set it up as a marker. He poured oil on top of it and named the place Bethel…”

I wonder how often after this moment Jacob stopped and looked at this marker. Did his children know the story of when God met Jacob in his dreams and revealed to him the promise of Abraham? Did he show them the marker?

Sometimes we don’t realize God’s movement in our lives until later. We need markers to remind us of the good God has done in our lives, so that we can look back on his faithfulness when we are in seasons of doubt.

If God has been moving, speaking, and working in your life, mark it. Find a memento. Put it on display at home so that every time you see it, you remember God’s faithfulness to you. One way to do this is to keep a prayer journal, writing down when you prayed and when God answered.
