Judges 19-21

Daily Devotional from Judges 19—

Verse 12
And his master said to him, “We will not turn aside into the city of foreigners, who do not belong to the people of Israel, but we will pass on to Gibeah.”

God set the Israelites apart as his special people, and he forbade them from mixing with others, so they wouldn’t slip into idolatry. However, as we’ve seen thus far, the Israelites were not separating themselves for God, they were doing whatever they liked, and worshipping whomever they wanted. By this point, so many had gone astray that God came close to annihilating the entire tribe of Benjamin!

Who knows but that the Levite may have had a safer stay in Jebus, with the ‘foreigners’?

Jesus called us to share his good news with the world: with every people group, local and foreign. We stand in His way when we propagate stereotypes, or see people for ‘what’ they are rather than who they are. Each person is an image-bearer of God, and as such, deserves the dignity and respect of having people willing to trust and love them.

Pray that God will give you his heart for all people today, and help you to love those you find hard to love.
