1 Chronicles 17-18

Daily Devotional from 1 Chronicles 17—

Verse 27
Now you have been pleased the bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you, for it is you, O Lord, who have blessed, and it is blessed forever.

I love David’s conversation with God in this chapter. David’s like, ‘Here I am sitting in my nice wood house while God is out tent-camping – I need to fix this!’ and God is like, ‘Really? If I needed a house, I think I could have built myself one. No David, you won’t build ME a house, but I will build YOU one.’

God isn’t talking about a physical house, though, he is referring to a dynasty: a man from David’s lineage would forever sit on the throne in God’s kingdom. Who is that man, ultimately? JESUS. David’s ‘house’ continues eternally blessed because Jesus came from his line, and Jesus now sits on the heavenly throne – over all kingdoms, all powers, for all time.

We may not be directly descended from David’s line but through Jesus we were adopted into the family! Isn’t it a beautiful picture God paints, of a forever home – a blessed home – with a loving father, where we are all welcomed and loved as his kids?
