The people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ.
We are so wired for the Messiah that sometimes we can latch on to the wrong people. We get star struck, dumbfounded. Sometimes people can be awesome. Truly terrific. Talented beyond degree. The best that I’ve ever seen. And something begins to happen in our heart. “I think they’re the answer. Nobody else compares. I’ll put all my eggs in this basket.”
Don’t do it. I know the temptation. Don’t do it.
What is happening is your heart is longing for the Messiah. And no one will fill the role like JESUS. You are wired to recognize Him. So, don’t allow cheaper versions to rival his place. Keep your opinions of man in check and keep your esteem of Christ on high.
