John 3

John 3:26
Look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.

What happens when you’re pretty good at something, and somebody else comes along and does it better? I think it’s an established fact that Walmart is the new Kmart. And maybe we should say that Chick-fil-A is the new KFC? At any rate, no body likes being out done.

Not even John the Baptist’s disciples, as you can see here in verse 26. Yet, I love their mentor’s reply in verse 30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Which is just another way of saying Jesus needs to phase in, and we need to phase out.

Is that our attitude? Christian ministry is nothing more than phasing out, so that people can see Jesus more clearly. No matter what kind of success we’ve ever enjoyed, it was never about us in the first place. Jesus can do as he wishes, because it’s all about him.
