John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Peace is a lot like oxygen. We have to have it, but we do nothing to make it. It’s made available to us and we breathe it in. The peace of Jesus is similar. We can’t manufacture it, but, as you can see in verse 27, it’s made available to us. So, it’s up to us to receive it. Sometimes we go around holding our breath, and sometimes we’re breathing fumes, but the only way to be the true you is to take deep drafts of Jesus. He is oxygen to the soul.
