1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
Can you imagine it? If you’re a guy, this is a wonderful exhortation.
It’s as if Paul is pulling you in for one last embrace before sailing off. He grabs you by the shoulders and draws you near. You can feel his whiskers on your cheek and his voice in your ear. He’s been like a father to you. He sees your potential and he believes in your worth. And he exhorts you like a man.
Make your sacrifices. Your community is counting on you. Don’t get distracted by the trivial. And don’t get lulled to sleep. Stay alert. And don’t let opportunities pass you by. People are watching. Therefore, give them something to follow. Keep your focus sharp and your priorities straight. You only come this way once. This is your generation. It belongs to you. Until we meet again, my son.
