Ephesians 6
Ephesians 6:4
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Do you see the balance there? This verse calls for discipling your children without angering your children. Remember, children can get angry. So, we as parents, and especially as fathers, need to be careful of belaboring a point, getting riled up in the moment, or resorting to sarcasm. So, make sure to keep yourself in check.
Well, I’m the boss. I can do whatever I want. No, you can’t. Paul says, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, not to provoke your children to anger. The verse encourages both the exercise of authority and the restraint of it. Children are little people in their own right. And they need to be respected as such.
