1 Thessalonians 2

1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

Why don’t we stand up on Sundays and read from Moby Dick or To Kill a Mockingbird? Because, although these books might be eloquent and full of insight, ultimately, they are simply the word of men. The Bible, however, is qualitatively different. Yes, it was written by men, but it has an ultimate authorship that comes from God. And look at what Paul says—it works in you. None of the classics can claim this. Let the Word do its work, as Melville, Lee, and Paul, for that matter, stand by and tip their hat to the Author of the Ages.
