1 Thessalonians 4

1 Thessalonians 4:10-11
We urge you… to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you.

These verses run counter to our modern-day preoccupation with social media. It can be hard to turn off our feeds. Indulging our vanity and gratifying our curiosity is more pleasurable than accepting the humdrum nature of everyday life. So, we primp and pose, meddle and pry, in an attempt to medicate our boredom.

However, it is verses like these that remind us to step away from the mirrors and windows. Go live your life, think your thoughts, and work with your hands. People don’t need to hear about everything you’re doing and thinking. Live as a person loved and validated by Christ. If Alexa and Siri don’t understand, they’ll get over it, and so will all of your followers. Be a follower of Christ and learn to be content.
Give us this day our daily bread. And teach us Lord to be content.
