1 Chronicles 1-2

Daily Devotional from 1 Chronicles 1--

Verse 34
Abraham fathered Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau and Israel.

Reading these genealogies is like a recap of all we’ve read this year. As you read, stop at the names you remember from past reading and reflect on their story. These first two chapters of 1 Chronicles remind me of learning about my own family history. As a kid, I loved hearing my grandparents’ stories about my ancestors. Today’s reading is similar, and we can see so many answered promises—especially to Abraham.

Abraham was promised the land (Genesis 12:7) and that God would multiply his “offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore” (Genesis 22:17). From just the genealogy after Abraham, we can see God was faithful. Abraham didn’t get to see the fulfillment of these promises in his lifetime, but God was faithful to His word past Abraham’s life.

It’s beautiful that God’s promises don’t end with our lives. So if you’re waiting, be encouraged that God will be faithful—no matter the time frame.
