Luke 14

Daily Devotional from Luke 14--

Verses 12-14
He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

Jesus says the most radical things. But it’s what he calls us to do: to love all kinds of people, the homeless, the addict, the poor, etc… Jesus isn’t telling us to do anything He hasn’t already done. He hung on the cross for all. And He rose again with an invitation to the worst of the worst, the outcasts, and the marginalized so they could also be born again and experience new life. We too were full of all sorts of wickedness before we accepted the invitation to eat with Jesus.

Notice too that these people can’t give anything back. This is a key we should all learn in ministering to others: we don’t help and love people for what we can get out of it. We are simply called to give. Now take some time and think who can you bless or invite over this week? Christ has given us an abundance to share.
