Proverbs 25

Daily Devotional from Proverbs 25—

Verse 4
Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel.

Dross is defined as ‘foreign matter, dregs, or mineral waste, in particular scum formed on the surface of molten metal.’ So when a silversmith is melting down raw mined silver, he has to clean the dross out before he can form the silver into something beautiful.

The VALUE is already there – that’s why it’s worth his time to make it into something special.

Dross builds up in our lives too. Scum on the surface of our hearts, from walking in a world that is so corrupt. The turnover of the year is a great time to examine our hearts, our minds, our lives and ask the Holy Spirit, “is there dross?” Are there attitudes or habits that have formed which are not pleasing to our Father, or which tarnish another’s view of us? Our VALUE has not decreased, thus we are worth the time and effort to be polished and formed into a vessel fit for His use. Let’s submit our hearts, minds, and wills to our heavenly Father – the Great Silversmith – for spiritual formation!
