Genesis 4-6

Daily Devotional from Genesis 5--

Verse 22
Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters.

I've always loved this verse - it's in the midst of a list of 'this guy lived this long and fathered this guy, and then died at this age'...literally, over and over. But there are a couple extra details given about Enoch: he walked with God (the footnote in my Bible says "he pleased God"), and "he was not, for God took him" (v.24).

Some people have a great ambition to leave their mark on the world, or to create a legacy of some sort. Whether that's by being a celebrity, implementing large-scale change, inventing or discovering something new, or being the "most" or the "best"...and there's nothing wrong with that, but I love that Enoch's legacy was immortalized for something far simpler. He walked with God. He pleased God. You don't need to be the best, strongest, smartest or most accomplished person to leave a true legacy, you need only to walk with God daily and let your focus be on pleasing HIM. What a great goal for the new year!
