Numbers 10-11

Daily Devotional from Numbers 11—

Verse 1
And the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.

It’s a repetitive theme. The people complain. About their leaders, about God, their circumstances, what they don’t have, or what they don’t like about what they do have. Moses is flustered. God is angered!

After all, God delivered them from Egypt because THEY BEGGED FOR DELIVERANCE! Egyptian taskmasters were harsh. They had food - but not freedom. So God delivered them. He provided water as needed; He provided food daily. Manna got boring, but it sustained, and it tasted like honey cakes – hello YUM!

God had a purpose in the wilderness. Israel had only ever been ruled and influenced by the Egyptians. They had to learn how to follow God, live for Him, and be knit together as a nation. If you’re unhappy with where you are right now, don’t complain! Ask God, and keep asking, what He wants to teach you through this. Maintain gratitude for His provision, and find joy in the journey!
