2 Samuel 18-20

Daily Devotional from 2 Samuel 18--

Verse 33 (CSB)
“The king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber above the city gate and wept. As he walked, he cried, “My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son!”’

As a son of David, Absalom became treacherous. He did things against God’s law and he tried to usurp the throne of his father. Absalom’s wicked heart led to his death. In spite of this, David continued to love his son. He advocated for his life, and when Joab killed Absalom instead of obeying David’s orders to keep him alive, David wept and mourned and longed to trade his life for Absalom’s.

Despite our own attempts of usurping God’s throne (through our sin), God’s heart is moved to keep us alive. He stepped into humanity and took our sin upon himself and made a way to resurrect us.

Your life is cherished by God. He made a way for you to be alive despite whatever it is you’ve done. You are forgiven. You are wanted. You are loved.
