Zechariah 1-3
Daily Devotional from Zechariah 3—
Verse 8b & 9b
…behold, I will bring my servant the Branch…and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
This prophecy came to Zechariah some 500 years before the birth of Christ, which we celebrate today. “The Branch” is referring to Jesus – a new Branch from the family tree of David. The iniquity (or sin) that God said he’d remove from the land “in a single day” – that day was Calvary! The day the man who was born King of the Jews, in a lowly stable, to a virgin mother, sacrificed his life on the cross as fully man and fully God – the only one capable of taking the punishment for all sin, for all time.
For many, Christmas can come with feelings of stress, anxiety, and loneliness in addition to, or instead of joy, peace and love. I pray that today you will remember the sacrifice of the baby born so long ago, all that he took on his back for you, and bask in Gratitude, and feel how much your God loves you!
