Matthew 27

Daily Devotional from Matthew 27--

Verse 46
About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Elí, Elí, lemá sabachtháni?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Sometimes things happen in life that make us feel as if God has abandoned us. Here in Matthew 27, Jesus is on the cross, the sin of the world is on his shoulders and for the first time—he felt as if God had abandoned him.

Jesus knows what it is like to feel abandoned by God.

YET— in Hebrews 4:15-16 it says:
For we do not have a high priest [Jesus] who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.

Take comfort that you are not alone in feeling abandoned. We serve a King who knows the feeling well and can empathize with us and is a refuge in the storm.
