Verse 12
She caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.
I’ve always loved the image of Joseph’s garment dangling in the hand of Potiphar’s wife. It tells me he knew who he was and to whom he belonged. And I believe we must share the same conviction. I say this because sometimes temptation can seize you by the lapel and foist itself upon you. But it’s in moments like these that we should remind ourselves that there’s a bigger picture. So today, if you find yourself in the clutch of temptation, whether it be fear, jealousy, anger, or lust, bring to mind who you are and to whom you belong. And, by all means, rise up, even if that means leaving your garment dangling behind.
