Psalm 114

Daily Devotional from Psalm 114—

Verses 1-2
When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

Psalm 114 is often recited in the church at Easter, because it talks about Israel's deliverance from slavery, which can be seen as a metaphor for our deliverance from sin.

The Old Testament tells how God sent Moses to lead his people out of slavery in Egypt. The New Testament tells how God sent his Son Jesus to lead all people out of slavery to sin.

This psalm talks about Judah (the land and the people) becoming God’s possession, and his dwelling place (his dominion, and his sanctuary). Today, because of Christ’s death and resurrection, we get the awesome privilege of individually being God’s possession and dwelling place! We belong to Him, and He lives in us, all for the asking, and the surrendering! And with Jesus living in us, we have a spring of life-water flowing in and through us – water that quenches our spiritual thirst for eternity!
