Acts 8

Daily Devotional from Acts 8—

Verses 30-31
When Philip ran up to it, he heard [the Ethiopian man] reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you’re reading?” “How can I,” he said, “unless someone guides me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

The Ethiopian man was intrigued by the Jewish scriptures. He was reading them aloud, trying to understand them, but couldn’t. Then the Holy Spirit instructed Philip to the right place so that the Word of God could be understood and the Gospel could be shared!

If you are reading the Bible and it doesn’t make sense to you, the Holy Spirit has provided others in the Church who can help make sense of it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek counsel—and don’t be embarrassed by how long it may take you to get it. Just don’t give up! One day, you may be the Holy Spirit’s answer to another person’s prayer and questions!
Understanding the scriptures is meant to be done in community, because EVERYONE has questions and doubts. We are all here to encourage each other to keep learning and lead each other to the Gospel.
