She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
This is a phenomenal statement: “he will save his people from their sins.” The angel doesn’t say he will save his people from hell. Sometimes I think that’s what we mean when we say “saved.” And although it’s true, his salvation reaches further than that. The angel declares he will save us from our sins – the root of all our trouble. Our sins are the things which enslave and suck us dry. So, praise God today that the purpose of Jesus’ coming is to deliver us from sin.
