When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Do you know there are more than 90 churches in Gresham? That might seem like a lot, but I think Jesus would say that’s not nearly enough. Think about it. Gresham has a population of over 110,000 people – many of who are harassed and helpless. And if we were to reach just half of the city for Christ, that would require at least 200 mid-size churches! But even in mid-size churches people still get lost in the shuffle. I think this verse should put a burning in our heart to see more local churches established who have a heart to take care for people. As Jesus said in verse 37, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few."
