Jeremiah 17-18
Daily Devotional from Jeremiah 17--
Verse 9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
Wow, talk about a countercultural proclamation! Oprah, arguably the most successful woman of all time, says this on her website:
"...When faced with a decision or conflict, your mind may come up with numerous, different and quite logical reasons why you should act as it advises, but if you listen to and trust your heart—however illogical or irrational it may seem—it is usually right and you are happier as a result."
Wait, that doesn't seem to jive with what God said through Jeremiah. So who do we believe? One of the greatest influencers of our time…or the One who created her?
Our society today will always push us to follow our hearts, but we MUST remember that our hearts may be easily drawn in any direction, following any whim or fancy. We must keep our WILL firm and resolve to follow only Jesus! Our hearts often lead us astray.
