Hebrews 4

Daily Devotional from Hebrews 4--

Verses 9-11
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

Do you sabbath? This is something I would like to do better. Some weeks I’ve done great but it’s so easy to work through the whole week. Paul is comparing the sabbath rest to the rest we have already received when we believed because without this sabbath rest we tend to burn out. If we burn out we start to fail morally and we begin to slip; skip out on prayer, fill our schedules with clutter and slowly we lose our peace. It doesn't come naturally for us to sabbath, that's why Paul says “strive to enter that rest.” It takes some serious effort to rest. It sounds backwards, but it isn’t, getting things done before the sabbath day, trusting God with what isn’t complete and training your mind to be okay with you not doing some sort of work. So find a day this week and strive to enter that rest! Start a new rhythm in your faith-walk, one that includes rest.
