Proverb 17

Daily Devotional from Proverb 17--

Verse 9
Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.

People will offend you. Godly people. People you love and trust. We are all human and we are all dealing with different things at different times and not always aware of each other's burdens. How do we deal with it?

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:5 love is not easily provoked or offended. If we are easily offended, we might question how well we are loving people, and ask Jesus to help us love better. But...we will still get offended from time to time.  Keep in mind, though, that most of the time, offenses are unintended.

When we are in that crushing moment of dealing with the pain of an offense, the best thing to do is pour out our hurt to God. Tell him all you are feeling, let him comfort your heart. If he gives you the go-ahead, then talk gently and humbly to the person who offended you. And if you've worked it out with God and the person, the next loving thing to do is to leave it there. Don't tell people who don't need to know. That is not loving and can cause a rift in friendship. Forgive. Love. Repeat.
